Champion Surfer Ben Skinner Shares His Stay

Multiple British and English surf champion Ben 'Skin Dog' Skinner wants to tell you why you should join us for a family surfing holiday

Cornwall’s unique surfing holiday experience

World class surfer Ben Skinner and his family have test driven Landal Gwel an Mor and have given it the big thumbs for location and luxury.

“From waxing our surfboards on the lodge deck to after-surf relaxation in the hot tub, Landal Gwel an Mor has everything you need to enjoy a surfing break in Cornwall. Even if you’ve never tried surfing before, you can come to experience this sport for the first time as a couple or a family.”

Surfing @ Portreath

Ben, who has been European champion, silver medal winner in the World Games and has held the number two slot on the world circuit, truly values his family-time. With all the travelling he has to do, discovering Landal Gwel an Mor in his home county of Cornwall has been a real gem of a find.

Ben went on to say: “There are so many different breaks near Portreath that whatever your ability there’s always somewhere to surf. Portreath itself is a unique spot with the beach break and a wave off the harbour wall in the right conditions”.

Exploring Gwel

Ben, his wife Michelle and three of their children had lots to do in between surfing; getting back to nature with Feadon Wildlife Centre, archery in the indoor range and burning off energy in Base Camp – it ticked all the boxes for this well-travelled active family looking for adventure.

Ben added “The kids have had a great time and Michelle and I have had time to relax and enjoy a break in luxury. The hot tub was awesome after a day of surfing and having fun with the kids”

Enjoying the Lodge

Pulling off a wet suit to rinse off under a hot outdoor shower with a cosy lodge with log burner awaiting your return is how all luxury Cornwall surf trips should be. Surfboard and wet suit hire are in walking distance, along with stunning views and that all important one-on-one time with Mother Nature.

With breakfast on your sundeck, you can even check out Gwel’s own surf cam at Portreath Beach, so you can check the waves each morning and plan your day. Whether it’s just you and your board or a big group of surfer friends gathering for your annual trip; Ben says you can enjoy Cornwall’s best surf spots by staying at these luxury lodges overlooking the break of Portreath with lodges for family’s, couples and pet-friendly accommodation – there really is something for everyone.

From the nation’s favourite beach resorts to secret surf spots, we’ve sourced surf breaks to suit all wave-riders. At the end of a long day on the water, there’s nothing quite like cracking open a bottle of wine and watching the sunset while the barbecue gently grills supper in the corner.

Why fly to the Tropics when the forecast for a luxury surf escape in the UK looks this good?
