Winter Weddings in Cornwall

Summer is often classed as the ‘wedding’ season, but here in Cornwall, we are really rather fond of a winter wedding. If you are planning your big day and haven’t considered a winter wedding then read on below.

Here at Gwel an Mor we have delivered our fair share of festive weddings too, with brides and grooms electing to have photos with our real reindeer. They certainly make for some unique wedding imagery and our beautiful yurt is perfect in the winter when we fire up the rustic log burning stove.

Snow – It might/will/definitely will snow and that’s romantic right? It might not though, but getting all wrapped up in the winter certainly is romantic. You might need to cross your fingers for a truly ‘white’ wedding though as Cornwall is well known for its snow!

Romance – As the day light hours reduce we get to spend more time surrounded by warmth and sparkling lights. Taking a windy walk and retreating back inside with a loved one’s is a romantic experience. Equally, these dark nights provide an intimacy for all your guests too, bringing family and friends together.

Frugal – You can drive a hard bargain with wedding suppliers in the winter as diaries become less packed. Photographers, florists and others will have less work on and you may be able to get a better price. This should leave more money to spend on the important things like…

Exotic Honeymoon – Escape the cold winter days of the UK and head as far afield as possible for guaranteed sunshine, sunbathing and cocktails by the pool. Return home to gloat with your tan.

Mulled Wine – Open fires and mulled wine is a match made in heaven, much like you and your spouse. With a winter wedding you can change your welcome drinks for something festive and warming and allow your guests to catch up in front of a roaring open fire.

Weather – Those booking summer weddings often obsess over the weather, but we all know that you cannot guarantee sunshine and fine weather in the UK at any time of the year. At least with a winter wedding you certainly won’t be expecting it, so there is no need for a plan B.

Perfect Planning – As venues tend to be less hectic during the winter you’ll have your wedding planner all to yourself, ensuring that the wedding is (quite rightly) all about you! You’ll be able to spend more time with your planner making sure every detail is looked after so your big day is absolutely perfect.

Delicious – Winter is all about comfort food. Hearty, traditional and warming dishes are the order of the day for a winter wedding ensuring everyone is kept satisfied.

Stand Out – A winter wedding is that little bit ‘different’ from the usual. The experience is unique and creates some incredible moments to cherish and memories to look back on.

Family & Friends – Christmas is a time of year when many people will already have time booked off, so it should be a bit easier for those guests to schedule you into the diary. Also, with the calendar reaching party season they will be fully prepared for a real celebration.
