We all love to win a competition or receive an award. Whether it’s winning a race, a competition or a sports event, it is a powerful statement about your capability and shows other people what you can do.
Certificates and trophies are always valued and cherished, often displayed for years or even whole lifetimes. They are symbols of achievement that help define us as individuals, as communities – or in our case as a business.
We believe Gwel an Mor has received more awards that any other holiday resort in the South West. Are we proud of this? Hell yes!
We have scooped no less than 45 awards in the last ten years and won five national awards in that time. We have won the top holiday park award in ‘Best in Britain’ three times and been awarded the ‘Visit England’ accolade twice as well as countless “South West Tourism and Visit Cornwall” awards.
We thrive on entering awards. We like to measure ourselves against our competition and demonstrate that we are at the top of our game.
Some awards are judged according to guests’ feedback (for 12 years’ running we have won the ‘Best Customer Service’ award for Cornwall as voted by our guests). National awards are judged by our peers in the hospitality industry. They help inform their decision by making ‘under cover’ visits, so they can experience the resort exactly as any other customer would.
In 2018, we are thrilled to have won the hat trick, being named ‘Best Holiday Park’ in the Cornwall Tourism Awards, then ‘Best Holiday Park’ in the South West at the South West Tourism Awards, followed by the ultimate accolade, the ‘Best Holiday Village’ in the whole country at the Visit England awards.
We have also been named a Finalist in the South West Wedding Awards 2019, after winning Simply Weddings ‘Wedding Venue of the Year’, so we are keeping our fingers crossed for the South West winner being announced in January 2019.

It is probably true to say that some reviews say more about the writer than the resort but customers are now pretty savvy and adept at interpreting reviews and come to their own overall judgement.
Trip Advisor is a highly regarded review site and one of our proudest achievements has been to hold a ‘Five Star’ rating on Trip Advisor for over ten years. This is unprecedented and Trip Advisor presented us with a certificate to mark this incredible achievement.
