Here in Cornwall we always look forward to March. It signals the start of spring and is often the end of the coldest temperatures of the year and the start of evenings remaining lighter that little longer. If you are on holiday in Cornwall in March here are a few tips and things to do to make sure there is no opportunity missed!
World Pasty Championship
On 4th March 2017 you can head to the world
famous Eden Project to take in the World Pasty Championships. Marvel at pastry
perfection and sample some Cornish culinary delights whilst also taking in the
tropical and Mediterranean biomes. Be sure to pay attention and next year you
could be entering your own pasty….
St Piran’s Day
Here in Cornwall we celebrate St Piran’s day on 5th
March each year. Celebrations will always last for most of the week with
various places to enjoy the party atmosphere. Locally in Falmouth and Redruth
there will be processions, stalls and more on the day itself, culminating in
music and celebration.
Start of Spring
This means we are out of the dark, cold months. One horticultural bonus is the arrival of
certain flowers. Our favourites are certainly the Bluebells, with Tehidy Woods
around the corner from us providing an excellent place to see them in bloom.
You can also visit the National Trust at Godolphin to see them, as well as Enys
Gardens in Falmouth and Golitha Falls in East Cornwall.
National Maritime Exhibition Launch
On March 17th the National Maritime Museum in
Falmouth will launch a new exhibition that will run until January 2018. The
exhibition will be based on the history of British tattoos and will showcase
the work of the some of the top artists. It’s a hugely popular art form and it
will be a great way to learn more about the history of this trend.
Sunday 26th March is Mother’s Day; make sure you
get the gifts bought and a table booked to really treat those most important of
family members. Here at Gwel an Mor we have The Terrace Restaurant where mum
will receive a bunch of daffodils on the big day. The menu is perfect for a
great day out too.
