Golf at Gwel an Mor

With the Ryder Cup over and the USA finally regaining the cup it’s time to think about playing the game rather than watching. Here at Gwel an Mor we can’t stop thinking about a round of golf here in Cornwall. There is a great 9-hole par-3 course nearing completion right here at the resort, and it is looking so good. We hope to be teeing off in spring/summer 2017.

The course is moving into the final stages of shaping and excavation, so the holes are looking incredible. Parts of the course have been seeded and are starting to look like the real deal. Moving forwards we will, much like your game, be a little at the mercy of the weather and nature, but we are still aiming for the course to be playable for a golf holiday in Cornwall in summer 2017.

We have worked with industry professionals to develop a course inspired by some of the finest golf courses and holes in the world.

It is a spectacular 9-hole course that will challenge and intimidate even the best golfers, with each hole inspired by professional golfers’ views of some of the best golf holes around the world. We are calling it the ‘The Famous 9’ at Gwel an Mor.

Holes are inspired by St Andrews, Augusta, Royal Troon, Sawgrass, Pebble Beach and Carnoustie.

These 9 holes are tough even for the best golfers and they have inspired us to create a course that everyone will want to play, with spectacular views out to sea every hole looks breath-taking and on its elevated coastal location, the weather will make every game different, every game a real challenge.

Here is the inspiration for our third hole:

Here is our version taking shape:

By using the latest in materials with all-weather greens and tees the course will be playable all year around.

Nearly 200,000 tons of earth has been imported to create this course with 20,000 tons dug out to create the water features, and it has taken 4 years so far to construct, the course is now seeded and will aim to open in the summer of 2017.

Golfers are finding it increasingly difficult to find the time needed to devote to their sport.

‘The Famous 9’ at Gwel an Mor suits modern golf, taking under two hours to play a round, it will not only attract hardened golfers who want to pit themselves against holes that even the most famous golfers struggle with, inspired by golf courses that can rarely be played on by most, but we also hope to attract many junior golfers, and introduce them to golf at its best and get more young people to play the sport.

Alongside our soon to open fishing lake, Base Camp indoor soft play and climbing walls, The Terrace Restaurant and future developments ‘The Famous 9’ will provide yet another incredible facility for residents and locals alike.
