Family Adventures in Cornwall

Family holidays in Cornwall are the stuff dreams are made of. There is so much to see and do that it could take a lifetime to take in everything that Cornwall has to offer! Your time is precious, especially family holidays, so here are a few ‘musts’ for families to ensure you make the most of a break from the daily grind. There’s something for every taste here, from relaxing to adrenalin junkies!

Get some sand between your toes (and fingers!)

It’s a rite of passage. You can’t come to Cornwall and not walk barefoot on any one of hundreds of breathtaking beaches. Everyone has their favourite spot to relax, sunbathe and picnic. Build a sandcastle, bury dad or play some beach games, just make sure you take in some of that sea air. Here at Gwel an Mor we did a quick straw poll of the best spots to get away from it all….we advise (ssshhhhh!) Polly Joke Beach, Chapel Porth, Perranuthanoe and Porth Kidney Sands.

Take the plunge

It’s certainly not as cold as it looks and is, in reality somewhat refreshing. Whether you elect for a quick paddle, a longer swim or a more exertive surfing or adrenalin experience you’ll be sure to feel alive! The sea has healing powers and our lodges have hot tubs to warm up in! Swimming in the sea as a family is a great experience, sharing the fun of ‘cool’ water is very liberating and will leave you with a fantastic sense of achievement. If you want to try your hand at wave riding let us and our partners, Ebo Adventure, get you on the crest of a wave!

Sample local delicacies

There is more to culinary Cornwall than the humble (yet delicious) Cornish Pasty and quintessential Cream Tea (Jam first. Always). In recent years Cornwall has become a mecca for fine food and supreme local producers, with every type of taste bud catered for. You can eat the best burger in Britain, world famous seafood or forage the beach and woods for slightly more eccentric morsels. At Gwel an Mor we really like food! That’s why we produced a little map to show you our favourite spots in Cornwall – or you can eat at The Terrace Restaurant here at the resort.

Be a tourist

You’re on holiday in Cornwall, so visit some amazing attractions and enjoy each other’s company. We have museums, theme parks, gardens and historic houses galore. Eden Project and Tate St Ives are globally recognised attractions, so take in a little knowledge and culture. Locally we have Newquay Zoo, Cornwall Seal Sanctuary as well as a plethora of go kart tracks, golf courses and activity centres. Here at Gwel an Mor we have Feadon Farm, a wildlife conservation centre with a Gold David Bellamy award. Meet and feed our foxes and fly birds of prey a stone’s throw from your luxury lodge here in Cornwall

Watch the sun

You have two options here, watch the sunrise or watch the sunset – either is a great experience. Get up early and watch the sunrise, as the beautiful countryside is slowly warmed and bathed in early morning light. Sunsets in Cornwall are something to behold. Out West the sun drops into the Atlantic Ocean and sends hues of colour across the sea toward you, your loved ones and your well-earned drink! It might even be visible from your own bubbling hot tub here at Gwel an Mor!
