Cycling in Cornwall

Mineral Tramways

From our home in Portreath you can head straight onto the
Mineral Tramway route. This mining heritage route is accessible for the whole
family and you can go as far as you like. The main route from here is the Coast
to Coast, 11 miles from Portreath on the north coast to Devoran on the South
coast. It’s a full day out which will need some stamina and a picnic!

Camel Trail

In North Cornwall you’ll find the well-known Camel Trail.
This route runs stretches from near Bodmin via Wadebridge to the fishing town
of Padstow. The route is pretty flat and offers plenty of opportunity to take
in great views of the estuary and stop somewhere for food and re-fuelling. It
is a total of 18 miles, so this is a serious day out. You can always elect to
start at different points of the trail. Wadebridge to Padstow is just 5.5 miles
and should be fun for the whole family.

The Track at Portreath

Just down the road from Gwel an Mor you’ll find The Track.
This is a spot for cyclists who need a little bit more of a thrill. The site
offers BMX and trials jumps for those not faint of heart. There is also jumps
and a half pipe as well as a mini ‘pump track’ for little ones and those on
balance bikes to enjoy.

National Trust Lanhydrock

Here you’ll find 6 differently graded routes, from beginner/family
friendly all the way up to highly technical routes. It’s a beautiful place to
enjoy a little off road cycling in the woods around the National Trust
property. With a great café onsite you’ll be able to refuel after some serious
two wheeled adventure.

Eden Project Class Sportive (7th May 2017)

For those a little more competitive and with a passion for
road bikes and racing then perhaps the Eden Project Cycle Sportive is the event
for you. Three different lengths of race around the Eden Project and
surrounding area provide a challenge for every level. Routes are 35, 62 and 100
miles in length and all take in the biomes. Entry costs are £24, £28 and £32
for the different distances and all include free entry to the world famous
attraction for your family.

Down to the woods

There are plenty of options for cycling in pretty woods on
quaint trails. Down the road from us is Tehidy woods that offers plenty of
routes to explore, all pretty short and in idyllic surroundings. If you fancy going
a little further afield then try Cardinham Woods near Bodmin, with plenty of
routes for those who like a little relaxing ride to those who want some
adrenalin fuelled fun. There is an excellent café there too.

Tour De Cornwall (for Cornwall Air Ambulance)

Our 2017 chosen charity is Cornwall Air Ambulance; they run
a great event for lovers of two-wheeled adventure. The Tour de Cornwall is a
three day event covering 200-miles and taking in the whole of Cornwall with a
focus on raising money for this fabulous charity. The event is from 15th
– 17th September 2017 with limited entries available – so check it
out sooner rather than later if you want to participate.

Since the success of Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and the
Team GB cycling squad cycling has become a hugely popular pastime here in the
UK. Both young and old(ish) alike are getting on two-wheels and enjoying the
countryside whilst getting a little workout too. Here in Cornwall there are
lots of options for places to ride your bicycle, so if you don’t have bikes
with you hire some from us and head out on the trails. Below you’ll find some
different options for cyclists of all ages and abilities…..
