Our Lodges

Cornwall with Babies and Toddlers

Although Cornwall is an amazing place for people of all ages, you are never too young to experience it for the first time. Coming to Cornwall with a baby or toddler is a great option, especially when the older children are in school and you can have the place to yourselves!

Here are a few ideas of things to do with the little ones whilst you are here:

Build a Sandcastle: A rite of passage for dads and little ones alike. There can be little more pleasing than getting the sand between your toes and constructing a good old fashioned sandcastle. Many beaches also have streams that the toddlers can enjoy, building dams and splashing to their hearts’ content.

Meet some Wildlife: There are many options for meeting wildlife in Cornwall, some are free and others you can pay for. Why not invest in a crabbing line and some bait and see what you can catch in the rock pools or harbours? If you want something a little more extravagant, Feadon Farm, here at Gwel an Mor, offers some truly up close and personal experiences. Meet and feed Foxes, fly birds of prey and learn about native British wildlife – all a stone’s throw from your own luxury lodge!

Eat an Ice Cream: If you need to satisfy a small sweet tooth then you can’t go wrong with Cornish Ice Cream. From Jelbert’s in Newlyn to Roskilly’s Farm you are never too far from beautiful, fresh Cornish treats. Sit on the beach or enjoy in the comfort of the abundance of excellent cafes and bars or better still grab one from an Ice Cream van on the beach!

Swim in the Sea: Maybe not all year round, depending on the age of the little ones, but certainly a must for any trip to the seaside! From Easter to end of October there are lifeguarded beaches throughout Cornwall. Always stay safe, and swim between the yellow and red flags on lifeguarded beaches. It’s an exhilarating experience and something truly special first time round for younger children.

Get on your bike: Cornwall has miles of heritage trails, forest and cycle routes to explore, including the famous Camel Trail. As a result, there are loads of spots to hire baby/toddler seats and pull-a-longs to get the small ones out in the open air. It’s a perfect day out with ample opportunity for a traditional picnic en route! We have bikes, tag-a-longs and more available to hire here at Gwel an Mor, with mining trails and woodlands to explore right on our doorstep!

Relax: Sometimes it’s just nice to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of merely being ‘away from it all’. Here at Gwel an Mor this is what we excel in. We have everything you could possibly need for baby and toddler breaks provided at no extra cost, from black out blinds to travel cots and bouncers to plastic cutlery.
