Christmas Illuminations in Cornwall

Here at Gwel an Mor we love Christmas, we love the atmosphere
in Cornwall as picturesque villages and communities light up with beautiful Christmas
light displays. Here in Cornwall you can soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a
mulled wine or cider by the sea, it’s a magical combination.

We are going to share our top five locations to soak up the atmosphere
and take in the beautiful Christmas lights…

1.      Mousehole. The classic Cornish fishing village
makes a spectacular effort each and every year. The secluded harbour and
surrounding cottages are decked out in a quaint yet grand fashion. With lights
around the harbour and even in the water you’ll soon be feeling festive.

2.      Angarrack. A slightly less well known location.
Angarrack is a small village, just a few miles from us here at Gwel an Mor. The
village has a long standing reputation for its community’s delivery of fabulous
Christmas lights. From entering the village just off the A30, all the way
through to the viaducts and wholesome village pub you’ll find a huge array of
Christmas lights – from leaping lords to turtle doves! It’s the perfect festive

3.      Padstow. Another picture perfect fishing village
in Cornwall with a Christmas light display to match. Aside from an amazing
Christmas fair, the lights that adorn the beautiful coastal village of Padstow
are truly magical. The harbour and pretty back streets are dressed in festive
splendour, so you can wonder and enjoy the delights of the village, including
fish and chips from Rick Stein, or a pint in a real Cornish pub with roaring
open fire. The Cornish would call it, ‘ansum’.

4.      Looe. Ok, so there is somewhat of a recurring
theme here. Looe is another pretty fishing village in South East Cornwall. The
village is decked out to be in ship-shape festive fashion throughout December.
The winding streets offer plenty of other opportunities for taking in the
Christmas atmosphere, with pubs and independent traders plying their trade.
Walk the famous ‘banjo pier’ and look back to the shore to see Looe in all of
its Christmas glory!

5.      Truro. Cornwalls’ city always puts on an amazing
display for Christmas, with The City of Lights Festival and Christmas markets
and fairs. The city itself boasts some great Christmas lights, the cobbled
streets playing host to a most festive atmosphere, especially on late night
shopping nights.
