2016 in Cornwall: The Best Bits

It’s been a great year here in Cornwall, it’s passed by at some rate of knots but we’ve really enjoyed ourselves. We’ve met so many wonderful people who have stayed and worked with us and generally taken the time to explore Cornwall alongside us. It culminated in an unprecedented third time win from the Hoseason’s awards we are again the ‘Best in Britain’ – certainly a nice way to welcome the festive season.

Here are some highlights of the year for us;

We enjoyed the start to the new year with a dip in the sea.
There are few better ways to blow away the cobwebs and get the mind set for the
year to come and to make those all important new years resolutions.

We spent a lovely evening with the better half eating fine
food in beautiful surroundings in The Terrace Restaurant. Chef and his team
served up incredible sharing Beef Wellingtons and we shared a few drinks too.
We also had fun with the kids enjoying a fabulous half term in the great
outdoors, warming up in a hot tub afterwards!

Easter is always good fun as there is very little not to
like about chocolate eggs and time off with the family. We joined in with the
kids here at Gwel an Mor and had an egg hunt with chocolate for all and a rather
enjoyable party in the barn!

We took a little drive to the South coast to the pretty town
of Porthleven for the Porthleven Food Festival. We ate delightful food and
drank some awesome craft ales and also enjoyed some live music. It was a great day
or so of over-indulgence. Afterwards we felt guilty, so made sure we spent a
little time walking the coast path and doing something active to make up for the
fun we had!

St Ives was visited for it’s great May Day Celebrations. We
danced around the maypole and soaked up the Bank Holiday atmosphere in pretty
fishing village. We also enjoyed the Floral Dance at Helston Flora Day.

As the weather started to warm up we took a trip to
Wadebridge for the Royal Cornwall Show. We spent the weekend marvelling at the
animals and exhibitions on show whilst taking on-board some refreshments from
some great local producers. Closer to home in Penzance we enjoyed the carnival
parade on Mazey Day, the end of the incredible Golowan Festival.

Stithians Agricultural Show was a great way to get out in
the sunshine and see some amazing demonstrations and animals. The weather was
really great this summer, so we spent as much time with the family on the beach
as possible. The beaches were immaculate as ever.

Holiday time. We reverted to eating BBQs on the beach or the
deck and relaxing with family. We explored the coast and the wealth of amazing
attractions in Cornwall. Here at Gwel an Mor we opened Base Camp – our indoor
facility with Clip’n’Climb climbing walls and 2000sq ft of soft play! We also
took in Boardmasters Festival in Newquay, watching some surfing and some
incredible music too.

Chef and his trusty fisherman headed to the Great Cornish
Food Festiva
l in Truro to wow visitors with a cooking demonstration. They
shared their insight on sustainable fishing as well as some recipes for some
truly tasty fish sauces.

Another family fun week was had during October half term, we
got all spooky exploring haunted houses in Cornwall and blew off some steam
with a kids fancy dress party here at Gwel an Mor in our events barn.

Well, although a little early we got all festive in
November. On the 26th and 27th November we hosted a
magical Christmas Fair, with stalls, music and food to enjoy the kids met Santa
and his real reindeer at Feadon Farm.

We’ll be joining the kids throughout December and meeting
Santa and his reindeer
. Come Christmas we’ll be ready for a relaxing break,
some fine food and maybe a few presents! Then we’ll toast the end of the year
and look forward to another awesome year in 2017!
