We
all know that taking care of the Environment and conserving the earths
resources are vital issues for all of us now. From day one, Gwel an Mor
has been seriously committed to operating in a truly sustainable way. Of
course we do the basics, such as re-cycling, energy conservation
and community support but we have gone a huge
step further by purchasing Feadon Farm (right next door) and developing
our own non-profit Wildlife Centre.
Feadon Farm is the centre-piece of our environmental policy and the place where all our guest can get right `up close’ to British Wildlife and be part of making a difference. That’s enough `eco-talk’ for now.
Let’s have some fun…
...Although Feadon Farm is open
to outside groups as an educational resource our staying guests definitely
have priority. You can choose from the following regular activities, there
are charges for these, please check with reception when booking.
• Wildlife Experience. Gary Zammit
(our very own wildlife celebrity and wildlife Ranger) knows just where
to look. The adventure of a woodland safari, you should find some of our
local mammals, and reptiles. Then you might meet Stinky the mink and our
rescued foxes, Todd and Meadow. Or fly one of our birds of prey…… We have
all sorts of other rescued animals coming in so who knows what other creatures
you might meet!
• Nature Trail Safari. A visit to
our secret pond, search for the creatures that lurk beneath! Frogs, Toads,
Newts and Lizard’s and lots of interesting insects, your bound to find
lots of other wildlife on route through our woodland walk, and then meet
our famous reindeer, and there’s always other animals to meet and learn
more about.
• Rock Pooling. Classic seaside pastime
with a fresh approach. Rock pooling’s always fun but with Gary on hand
you’ll get to see behind the scenes and find out so much more about…….Hermit
Crabs, Starfish and Sea Hares and whatever else turns up on the day – you
might even see a seal – and sometimes (say this in a whisper) you could
catch a glimpse of a dolphin.
• Falconry. We have Harry the Harris
Hawk and Sly the Barn Owl. Beautiful birds of prey. Gary will talk you through
the history and equipment used and after a demonstration you’ll fly the
birds (recommended for ages 8 years and upwards). Definitely bring your
camera.
• Night walk. Much wildlife comes
alive at night (which is another reason we never see it). A night lamp
and a little know how reveals all. We look for badgers, owls, deer and
foxes close by. If the wild foxes don’t show you’ll certainly meet our
own rescued foxes Todd and Meadow, and all our other tame wildlife.
Sessions include quizzes and photo opportunities and certificates are available
for some activities.
These sessions run at regular times throughout the week and we would do our best to accommodate any special request you might have.

We are proud to be Business Supporters of Cornwall Wildlife Trust. As Cornwall’s only local wildlife charity, the Trust carries out vitally important conservation and educational work throughout the county. Our support helps the Trust manage 55 nature reserves, providing refuge for nationally rare and endangered species. Cornwall Wildlife Trust also runs a number of conservation projects across the county, on land and in our seas. We are very happy to help raise much needed funds for the Trust, so it can continue to protect Cornwall’s wildlife and wild places, now and for the future. |
